What do you get when you mix love, serving, charity and unexpected recognition? For one thing, it definitely makes for a wonderful engagement session, which David Duncan of David Duncan Photography had the privilege of capturing.
Many of you may have heard of the YWCA in downtown Lynchburg, but did you realize the impact that they are having on our community? Through outreaches such as their Domestic Violence Prevention Center and their Town Center residence building, they are transforming lives of women one by one. The Church Street Bridal Shop is one way that the YWCA raises money to support their causes, which is a “feel good” way to be able to purchase a gown while helping out a local cause. I, personally, believe in the cause for the YWCA, and I have seen their outreach in action … it is a great thing going on in our area!
What does this all have to do with an engagement post, you may ask? A lot! At least with this one. This year the YWCA hosted its first Philanthropic Bride Challenge where brides-to-be were nominated for the title of “Philanthropic Bride” based on going above and beyond in her service to the community. The winner of the 2010 challenge was able to choose a gown, veil and shoes from the Church Street Bridal Shop in addition to receiving a $1000 gift certificate from David Duncan Photography for photographic services.
This year’s winner was Arika, and I hope that you enjoy these photos of her with her fiance’ Adam. I congratulate you, Arika on your service to your community and for being an example to the young ladies in the Central Virginia area. Also, I hope that you will check out Church Street Bridal (on Church Street in downtown Lynchburg) and their new Church Street Couture shop (in the Galleria on Main Street in downtown Lynchburg) to support your local YWCA.
