Hill City Bride

Everyday Weditorial – Behind the Scenes

In the spring of 2011 (soon after our Napoleon and Josephine stylized shoot), the idea of doing the loved characters of Nancy Drew and Frank Hardy entered my mind. I thought it might be received as a crazy idea, but so many on our team grew up reading the books that the idea just grew into the shoot that we have presented to you over the past few Mondays.

From conception of the idea to gathering vendors to implement the scenes and capture images, untold hours go into planning the details. Here you can catch a glimpse of what went on behind the scenes the day of our stylized shoot, which took place on the ONLY snowy day in Lynchburg this past winter. It seems that bad weather comes on our photo shoots, but don’t worry… our next one is planned for the summer (hopefully it won’t rain!).

Without further due, here is a peek into our day of shooting at the old Jones Memorial Library. Many thanks to clutch interns Becca Burke and Steph McGinn for capturing these photos of our day.

Emily from Bodyworks Day Spa & Salon did our “Nancy”‘s hair and makeup at her salon early that snowy morning.

Ok, please just take note of the one photo that there is SNOW, but no worries. The show went on! Here we are checking out the beginnings of the table setting.

Here, Jessica from Celebration was using the snow to wash the floors so the dress would not get dirty. She was such a trooper that day, and those floors really were filthy!

We had a collection of vintage books to use for the shoot. I do have a cute story to tell, though. My 8 year old daughter knew that I needed books, so on her own she borrowed all that they had from her school library (hence the dotted and tagged books). So sweet of her to think of that!

Here is our staging center with props on the right and Panera on the left.

Sandra from RS Exclusive helped to design the table as did Linda and Mary of Love Is in the Air. Here Sandra puts finishing touches on the cake while Mary and Linda tackle the job of hanging the clock.

It’s always a collaborative effort, which is so beautiful to see. I adore the fact that wedding professionals (even those that do the same line of work) are truly friends and can work together with ease, fun and finesse.

Here Jeremiah of Stone Blue Productions is getting some detail shots before our “Fred” and “Nancy” come out.

It’s always fun to get a sneak peek on the camera as things are moving along!

Fun shoes awaited in the dressing area.

Here our bride is ready, and I am waiting with Amy from The Arrangement Company so that we can start shooting with our couple. It was really cold, so I was on sweater duty for Ashley, who played Nancy Drew.

Lighting, check! Dress clipped, check! Yes, it’s time for photos.

It’s not all fluff and fun… sometimes holding lighting high above or getting down on the dirty floor for a great shot is required.

Aren’t they cute? In case you missed the story, Ashley was a model that came to our casting for our 2011 photo shoot, and she immediately came to my mind when I thought of Nancy Drew. She suggested her then boyfriend for the shoot, and he was perfect! Ashley thinks he’s pretty perfect, too… they have since become engaged. How exciting!!

Ok, so these are the photos I adore. It’s SO fun to see what the photo booth brings out in people, and special thanks goes out to the Lynchburg Snapshot Studio for the use of their amazingly fun booth. Enjoy all!

Here is the beautiful Crystal flying solo in the booth. Someone had to break it in!

I always feel inspired to open my mouth for some reason. I need to come up with another pose for sure!

My fabulous mom (Trudie) and my daughter, Aubrey.

Sabrena (who did the layout design) and me playing it fierce!

Yay, interns! This group of ladies is amazing! Darnay, Becca, Steph and Lauren worked on design, and Whitney worked on editing and writing.

My uber supportive husband, Earl, had fun, too! I love how his name tag transferred from him to me. LOL!

Sabrena’s husband Josh tried to figure out how that thing worked…

Yay! Love for clutch from Amanda (Ashley Baber Weddings), Jen, Crystal (Crystal George Studios) and Jane (Jane Bradley Photography).

More magazine love all around… so fun!

Yay for more family pictures.

Bye, everyone! See you next issue…

Again, HUGE thanks goes out to Lynchburg Snapshot Studio for these fun photos… hire them for your next event, and you will have lots of fun photos, too. I heart photo booths.

clutch, the bride’s guide to have and to hold debuts

Wow. You work on something for months and months and devote SO much time, energy and love into it… you know the project will eventually be completed, but while you are in process it seems as though you will never finish! I am so excited and also proud to finally be able to hold our wedding publication… clutch, the bride’s guide to have and to hold, in my hand.

To celebrate our completion and also to revel in our accomplishment, I decided to have an event to reveal and debut the magazine. It was an intimate affair that included those who were involved in the magazine… advertisers, writers, graphic designers, interns and my immediate family, who although they did not actually contribute to the creation of the magazine, they were my support and help along the way.

Enjoy a glimpse into our evening, and many thanks to Jeremiah of Stone Blue Productions for being our documenter for the evening.

The beautiful tulips were a congratulations from my parents.

The view from City View by the James is so stunning, and yes, I did have a schedule for the evening. Everyone had to wait until the ribbon was cut to see the magazines!

Our event was catered by Repast Catering, and it was delicious and beautiful.

Here is a quick shot of Kim Jennings of City View and Laurie Gulluscio of the Retail Merchant’s Association.

We had a gorgeous and delicious cake from La Bella Torta.

I thanked everyone… advertisers, writers, designers, family. Everyone had a part in it! Here I (Jennifer) am with Sabrena, who did the layout for the publication.

And YES, I did have a ribbon cutting… why not? Sabrena and I each kept half of the ribbon that was cut.

Then there was the waiting and watching as everyone FINALLY got to see the publication and oohed and ahhed. It was SO fun to see their reaction!!

More friends (ok, advertisers, but I really see these ladies as friends first!) checking out their ads and the overall publication.

Yay, mission accomplished! So many hours and so much work and love, but we did it!! Now, on to the next project…

Also, stay tuned for our fun photo booth posting where you will see all of our guests at their finest. The photos are great, and I can not wait to share them with you!!

Awesomest Bridal Publication Ever (tee hee hee, ok, I AM a little biased): clutch

The Bride’s Guide to Lynchburg by Devin Olson Media

I truly enjoy it when someone has a vision in mind and then makes that vision into a reality! Several months ago, Devin from Devin Olson Media, came to me and said that he had this idea of having a contest to find the best wedding vendors in the Lynchburg area and then feature them in a video documentary. Great idea! Well, what Devin came up with is not only a guide to the vendors, but it also features a lot of wonderful tips to help a bride plan her wedding day.

I am also excited to be featured in it while representing both Hill City Bride and my new publication, clutch, the bride’s guide to have and to hold. It does take a few minutes to watch, but I would highly suggest it. If you are planning an event or a wedding, there are lots of Hill City Bride vendors featured. How fun! So, grab a cup of coffee, and enjoy watching both part one and part two of these videos. Thank you, Devin, and I am so proud of you for taking an idea and turning it into a great resource for Central VA brides.

Check Out the Newest Issue of Central Virginia Home Magazine

Some secrets I have to keep under wraps, this one included! I had SO much fun interviewing families who have had their weddings at home along with writing an article for Central Virginia Home about having a wedding at home. This article relieves your fears and also gives you things to think about as three local families are interviewed about their experiences. I was thrilled to write this piece for such a wonderful, local publication! Here is a peek at the cover, and be sure to check around town for your copy today… mine is not the only article in there, of course, as it is filled with a wealth of information about your home and garden.

I also want to take the time to *brag* a little bit on our Hill City Bride vendors as some of them were also featured inside! I interviewed Linda Hall of Love Is in the Air along with Amanda Gray of Ashley Baber Weddings to include in the article, and the photography work of Allegra of Allegra’s Studio is also featured for a wedding that she photographed. Last but not least, the floral work of Amy of The Arrangement Company and the photography of Jeremiah of Stone Blue Productions was featured on the cover. So exciting!

If you are from out of town, feel free to read the article here, but if you are around Lynchburg, go out and pick up a copy today! Also, remember that we have Bliss, a fine wedding fair coming up in just a few short weeks. More information is HERE.
